DIY Natural Bathroom Cleaning Supplies

DIY Natural Bathroom Cleaning Supplies

Are you still using Windex, Comet, and other harsh cleansers to get your bathroom sparkling? No more, friend! I’m about to show you how incredibly easy it is to use natural ingredients to whip up your own cleaning supplies.

I also used to buy 3, 4, even 5 different bathroom cleaning products from the store on the regular. Leave out the concerns about the ingredients for a minute- that’s a TON of extra plastic waste!

Effective cleaning supplies so safe you could eat them!

Once I found out about the magic that vinegar and baking soda bring to the table, my mind was opened! And now? I rarely buy any cleaning supplies from the store!

Saving money? Check!

Less exposure to nasty chemicals? Yep!

Reducing my personal contribution to the plastic beach? CHECK!

Goodbye to plastic bottles filled with toxins

Here’s my weekly routine to get the bathrooms looking good:

Glass and Mirror Cleaner

Four ingredients, folks! There’s a good chance you have them all on hand already.

  • 2 Tablespoons white vinegar
  • 2 Tablespoons rubbing alcohol
  • 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 c water

Why cornstarch? I’ve been using this cleaner for years, but just learned the answer to that question recently! Water droplets (in your glass cleaner) get stuck to pits in the glass- then, more water sticks to that, and you get streaks. Cornstarch is able to disrupt the hydrogen bonding to give you a nice streak-free surface.

Sink, Tub, and Toilet Scrub

Baking soda does SO much all on its own!

All I use is baking soda! I re-purposed an old spice container so I would have a shaker. Get the sink or tub wet, shake baking soda all over the surface, and scrub with a wet sponge. Rinse and done!

For the toilet bowl, I do the same- just sprinkle baking soda and scrub. I’ve got 3 males in this house with me (two of which don’t always pay attention when they’re peeing), and baking soda alone keeps our toilets clean and fresh.

How does baking soda work SO well? It’s texture allows it to act as a mild abrasive, latching on to dirt and grime to scrub it away. In addition, it neutralizes odors whether the source is acidic or basic- so you aren’t covering up the smell, you’re actually eliminating it!

Multi-Purpose Cleaning Spray

I use this *everywhere*. It is the easiest recipe in the world.

  • 1/2 c vinegar
  • 1/2 c water
  • 10-15 drops essential oil of your choice- I like to use tea tree and lavender ( for their antibacterial properties and lovely smell)

Just mix it up in a spray bottle and give it a good shake!

I’ll grab this bottle to clean and disinfect countertops, toilet, step stools, toothbrush holders, door knobs, everything. Like the other recipes (well, I guess baking soda isn’t really a recipe), it’s ridiculously easy and costs pennies to make.

Want to level up on your earth-friendly cleaning routine? Use rags instead of paper towels. This helps in two ways- keeps the old ratty towel/ T-shirt out of the garbage, and decreases our dependence on cutting down trees for paper products.

Mother Earth says thank you!
