Sorry, Not Sorry: Stepping Into Your Power By Saying “Thank You” Instead Of “I’m Sorry”

How many times have you apologized today? Maybe you were late for an appointment, or had a lot of questions, or just didn’t feel like you did a good enough job (at whatever it was). Chances are, if you kept track, you’d find that those

How to Choose Your First Yoni Egg

How to Choose Your First Yoni Egg

Are you ready to pick out your first yoni egg after reading last week’s post? Even though yoni eggs are still not super well known, there are a lot of sources and options out there. Read on to see what’s best for you!

There are a few key things to consider. Safety and quality is first and foremost- this is your yoni we’re talking about! You don’t want to put just anything in her- only the best!

Beyond that, you’ll have some personal choices to make regarding which stone the egg is made from, the size, and whether you want it drilled or not. Let’s dive in!

Source

Like many other products, there are a couple different types of companies selling yoni eggs. You have those that are obviously passionate about and devoted to helping every woman have a happy, healthy yoni. They understand which stones are safe to use and know where their materials are sourced from, and likely provide additional details on ways to use your egg.

Then you have others who are just hopping on the bandwagon, and looking to make a quick buck selling a popular product at a dirt cheap price. A set of 3 “jade” eggs for $15?? Not real jade, honey!

Prices that are so low they seem unreal, vague instructions on how to use the egg, weird typos, no sign of a women/yoni centered company… these are all red flags for me when I’m shopping for yoni eggs, steams, wands, menstrual products, etc.

GIA Certified

Trustworthy yoni egg providers will be able to provide a certificate showing the crystal was inspected by the GIA (Gemological Institute of America). This proves that you’re getting what you paid for! Also, it allows you to use your egg without any fear of exposure to unsafe stones, additives, or dyes.

Example of a GIA certificate

Gemstone Yoni (full disclosure, I am an affiliate) goes the extra step beyond this and provides a full breakdown of how their products go from raw stone to the beautiful polished egg that gets shipped to you. You can view it here, including pictures of every step in the process.

Please, if you take only one piece of advice away from this post- don’t buy  a yoni egg on Amazon. Amazon has its place, but it isn’t in your vagina. Here is an example of the kind of detailed instructions you can expect to see there:

“Normal using rules: L size is for women who had deliveried children after a period of time or women who are over 50 years old, otherwise, using M size.

small size is for the women who had practice for a period and had mastered control their PC muscles, wish to advance their practice.”

All typos/ spelling and grammar mistakes are left unchanged.

Comparing this to companies that offer pages upon pages of free info, detailed instructions for egg practices, and lengthy FAQ sections on their site- there’s really no competition!

Crystal Selection

For beginners, jade is always good! My first egg is on it’s way to me now, and I chose nephrite jade. I have no doubt that I’ll collect many others as time goes on, but jade is the ancient standard and seemed like a great starting point.

Also, the properties of the stone are perfection:

  • Health and abundance
  • Connection to the heart chakra
  • Promotes confidence
  • Calms the nervous system
  • Transmutes negative energies into positive
  • Known to aid in reproductive system issues

But lucky for us, we have sooo many options! Here are some others that are safe to use:

  • Clear Quartz: This “master healer” is known to bring clarity, harmony, and balance.
  • Rose Quartz: The stone of unconditional love. Helpful with skin and reproductive system difficulties. If you need to show yourself more love, this is the one for you!
  • Carnelian: Confidence booster! Carnelian is a great choice to fire up your libido.
  • Obsidian: Connection to the root chakra. This is a protective stone that can aid in releasing traumas and emotions stored in your body.
  • Amethyst: Serenity and calm are two of amethyst’s trademarks. It’s also known as a fantastic aid in overcoming addictions of all kinds.
  • Rhodonite: Another fantastic love stone! Rhodonite is wonderful for dispelling anxiety and allowing you to become more observant and clear in your relationships.

Of course, these are just very brief insights into the benefits of these stones! If one of them calls to you, I encourage you to do a little more research and see if its properties resonate for you.

Let your inner goddess choose. She knows what you need!

Avoid These Eggs!

There are MANY stones that aren’t appropriate to be used in the yoni. Some are too soft and will break down if exposed to moisture, and some have toxic ingredients like copper. Whatever the reason, stay away from these!

Also, if a company is selling any of the stones listed as yoni eggs, it’s a pretty reliable sign that this is NOT the place to be shopping for an egg!

  • *Angelite
  • Chrysocolla
  • Flourite
  • Galena
  • Labradorite
  • Malachite
  • Selenite
  • Sodalite
  • Tiger’s Eye
  • Turquoise

Size Matters

Large –> Medium –> Small

Yoni eggs typically come in 3 sizes: small, medium, and large. Most women will want to start with a medium egg.

Large: May be better for postpartum use, or for women who want a little extra weight to their practice.

Small: Small eggs are usually for advanced yoni egg users. It’s more of a challenge to move a smaller egg, so practicing with a medium size for awhile is recommended.  This size can also be helpful to work on relaxing exercises if you have a severely hypertonic pelvic floor and have trouble inserting a medium egg comfortably.

Drilled or Undrilled?

Beginners are usually more comfortable with a drilled egg. The hole drilled through the center of the egg allows you to insert a string. This makes removal easier, and provides reassurance for anyone who is concerned about the egg getting “lost” inside of them.

(Side note- it won’t get lost inside of you! Your cervix ain’t letting it pass, so no worries!)

Drilled eggs with strings

An undrilled or horizontally drilled egg could be a good choice for any woman with an IUD that wants to try a yoni egg. The main concern with IUDs and yoni eggs is the strings from one getting caught on the other, potentially moving the IUD (which you DO NOT WANT).

On its way to me…so excited!!

I hope this gave you some helpful guidance in selecting your first egg.  I’ve got a lovely nephrite jade egg on its way to me, and I can’t wait to give you allll the details on starting my practice!
