Have you ever heard the saying “energy is everything”? It’s true! Everything, including you and me, is made from pure energy. Just like a massage therapist works on your muscles to bring relief and balance to your body, a Reiki practitioner works with your energetic field to do the same for your heart and mind.
What Is Reiki?
Reiki is an energetic healing practice that originated in Japan and is now widely used around the world. The simplest way to describe it to those already familiar with massage is that it’s like a “massage for the soul”.
These sessions are extremely relaxing and beneficial, but it goes way beyond just feeling good. Reiki gives you the opportunity to settle back into yourself and let go of all your daily/ worldly stresses. It allows you to enter a space where you can do whatever it is that you need to heal on all levels.
Benefits
There are SO many things Reiki can help with! Here are a few of the biggest reasons my clients come in for a Reiki session:

Another thing I absolutely love about Reiki? It’s for EVERYONE! There are really no cases in which Reiki is going to cause harm. Kids, babies, and elderly folks can all benefit from Reiki.
What To Expect During Your Session
During a Reiki session, the receiver will lay fully clothed on the massage table while the practitioner places their hands on or above the body to allow Reiki to flow. Your only job is to be present, relax, and receive. It can be similar to a meditation experience.
Note: Reiki sessions can be completely hands-off if that is your preference.
There are certain hand positions traditionally used, but this isn’t a hard rule. I let my intuition lead me, so every session can look a little different! Also, I ask clients if they have any specific concerns or intentions for our time together before their Reiki session begins. For example, if the receiver is coming in for Reiki due to physical pain or symptoms, I’ll know to pay plenty of attention to that exact area. If someone is going through a loss, I’ll focus on their heart chakra to help support them emotionally.
Each Reiki session is such a unique encounter. I always say that the best way to understand Reiki is to experience it for yourself! But for those that like to dig in to the science before trying a new wellness modality, there are many studies available on the benefits of Reiki- everything from reduced blood pressure, lower heart rate, reduced stress, nausea, and more. This amazing healing technique is offered and taught in many prominent hospitals like the Cleveland Clinic, Brigham and Women’s, and John Hopkins (and hundreds of others).
What does it feel like?
There are many common physical sensations you may feel during a Reiki session, including warmth or tingling, yawning, vibration/buzzing, and deep relaxation- so deep you might even fall asleep on the table (which is not unusual and totally okay to do)!
Some people may feel strong emotions come and go, or experience an emotional release like laughing or crying. As your Reiki practitioner, I am ready to hold space and support you through whatever you experience during your session. Expressing emotions is healthy, tears can be necessary, and I’m here for it all.
Results
Each Reiki experience is so different- and that’s part of the beauty of it! Your treatment is going to give you what YOU need each time. Here’s what some of my clients have said after their sessions:
” I feel lighter.” ( I hear this one all the time- stuck energy is HEAVY!)
” I slept like a baby!” (This was from a client who had been dealing with insomnia all week.)
“I felt a lot of stuck guilt lift off my shoulders.”
“I left feeling grounded and balanced, and spent the rest of the day feeling very ‘in my body'”.
